Emergency support for children in Gaza

You’ve surely heard about it: The situation in Gaza is dramatic. Hunger and the struggle for survival dominate everything. More than 70,000 children are at risk of acute malnutrition. There is a lack of medicine and clean drinking water, and medical care is barely possible. The good news is: aid supplies are now once again reaching the Gaza Strip, albeit in limited quantities – but it is not enough.

Among the aid deliveries are dozens of trucks carrying life-saving therapeutic food from UNICEF for malnourished children. This food helps the children regain their strength.

One-year-old Mohammed is eating therapeutic supplementary food to combat his malnutrition. His mother reports that she strongly felt the effects of the aid blockade in recent months: “The suspension of aid meant we could no longer receive the supplements, and that seriously harmed my child.”

Important psychosocial support

Many children in Gaza have suffered losses. UNICEF is on the ground with around 100 helpers and supports child-friendly centers that care for children who have experienced traumatic events.
